Community Outreach

Here at L@S GANAS, we value community. We endeavor to reach not only current UIC students but also residents of the Chicago area at large.

UIC Partnerships

We partner with many UIC units such as the Latin American Recruitment and Educational Services Program (LARES), the Latino Cultural Center (LCC), CHANCE, Hispanic Center of Excellence and more. These UIC units work with students in high school who are starting to plan for college and some even provide students with intensive research opportunities on campus during the summer. Connecting with them enables us to influence and recruit potential L@S GANAS scholars.

Community Partnerships

L@S GANAS also partners with various Hispanic serving Chicago community organizations such as Latino Youth, Project LEAD, and so on. The aim is to reach high school students and their families as they consider higher education plans.

Why Latinx? Latinx (pronounced “La-TEEN-ex”) is a gender-inclusive way of referring to people of Latin American descent. This includes people who identify as Latin@, Latino, Latina, Hispanic, Latin American, Hispanic American, Chicano, Chicana, etc.
